Cornerstone (1 Peter 2 v 4-10)

'Behold I lay in Zion a chief Cornerstone
And he who believes in Him will not be put to shame'
Elect and precious is this glorious One alone
Lighting our way, and shining like a lustrous flame.

Amid the gathering darkness, He will show our way
And though the ground is shaking, He will stabilise
All who rely on Him, who see the light of day
A Light that shines and lights the path before our eyes.

The stone rejected by the builders has become
The first and only Cornerstone for this dark world
And with no recognition of His worth, that some
In blindness leave their self-sufficient flags unfurled.

Why should we be amazed when stumbling feet are seen?
When He the Rock becomes offence, for they are blind
And cannot find their way amid their crumbling scene
Where good and evil have become now redefined.

We are a chosen generation and are too
A royal priesthood, a holy nation, by His Grace
And called from darkness to His light, where all is new
Obtaining of His mercy and the seeking of His face.

As living stones we rest upon the Corner's Head
The building where, among His loved-ones He can dwell
His people, who in Him, have risen from the dead
And find His story greater than all tongues can tell.
