What Do You Mean Old?

"Old" can mean many things.

You can have milk in the fridge which is 2 days "old".

You can have a mouse which is "old" at five years.

A dog can be "old" at ten years.

You may have a Mum or Dad who you think is "old".

You may have a grandmother who is "old" at ninety.

We say a car is "old", and a computer from last year is already "old". We talk about "Old" fashioned clothing from only a few years back.

We think a castle is "old" if it was built 500 years ago, and a nation's history can go back hundreds of years to the "olden" times.

But there is nothing on earth which is older than 7000 years - not even fossils, or rocks, or islands or countries.

In fact, the Bible says that even the universe with all its stars is not older than 7000 years!

The Bible says the earth is "old"* but it means "old" in the same way we say a vintage car is "old".
