Wording of this Handout:
This is a serious page about cigarettes.
There is nothing funny about them.
They are made of dried tobacco, and tobacco is poisonous!
There are about 4000 substances in tobacco...the most dangerous ones are TAR, which is black and sticky. It sticks to lungs and causes cancer.
There is also a gas called CARBON MONOXIDE. It is the same gas which comes out of the exhaust pipe of a car! Pooo!
And there is NICOTINE, which goes into a person's body, and makes them want more and more and MORE of it.
There is also AMMONIA, which you can find in floor-cleaner, and CADMIUM, which is used to make batteries. Yuk!
If you counted all the people who die because of smoking each year, and do a little maths, it would come to 11 people every day! Do you have a mother, father, brother or sister who smokes? Please let them know that you love them, and that you don't want them to die because of their smoking.
If someone smokes 40 cigarettes a day, they are spending about $4000 dollars a year on tobacco. Think of what YOU could do with that much money! People pay tax on every packet of cigarettes they buy, which addes up to about $650 million dollars a year, but the Government spends a lot more than that on looking after people who are sick or dying because of the cigarettes they buy.
CIGARETTES ARE FOR SUCKERS!
