Wording of this Handout:
The two gates.
You probably know this bit of the Bible, but I think it is so important it should be looked at many times. Its the teaching by Jesus about the two gates.
One gate is narrow, but, despite the difficult entrance, it leads to life. Once you are through the narrow gate, the road is also narrow. You have to walk carefully in case you step off the narrow rad. Not many people, out of the whole world, actually find this narrow gate, or walk the narrow way, even though it is the only way to life.
The other gate is wide, and the road it opens to is also wide. Most people in the world travel along this road. Its easy to go along it. Its popular. Its the way of the world, full of food, and money and entertainment. If you are on the wide road, you will have plenty of friends. They will say "Live and let live!" and they will fill you life with interesting and distracting things.... all the way to the destruction at the end of the road.
Jesus did not say that if you are a Christian you will be miserable, because the narrow way is difficult. Its all relative. I've been on the narrow way for the last 40 odd years and I have no complaints. I'd rather be a Christian than anything else.
Jesus said: "Enter...in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be with go in there." Matthew 7:13
