Cities

Most people live in cities for they will
Thrive and populate with transitory thrill
Places with vanity and lust for life
But in their darkness holds a hidden knife.

Many's the misery of that hidden street
The killing lunge, the pattering of feet
Or in a doorway, bundled from the cold
A body shivers, in old clothing rolled.

A Royal City, shows a regal worth
Jerusalem, the joy of the whole earth
And, as intended it should be for all
But earthly cities beat upon its wall.

One day will see Jerusalem descend
From heaven, a scene that we can't comprehend
But even now our hearts are filled with joy
A City, that the world cannot destroy.

That great Celestial City of the King
Has streets of gold, where joyful praises ring
The endless wonder of th' eternal day
A place where all our tears are wiped away.
