A Father's Blessing

by Kristine Stanton © 2024

God sent you to me, little one—
a blessing from above.
You are a precious gift to me—
one I adore and love.

O' I was there when you were born—
my heart swelled with sweet smiles.
I counted all your tiny toes,
my cherished, little child.

I held you in my arms and cried
sweet tears of happiness.
I felt so blessed to be a "Dad"—
no words could quite express.

And as you slept within my arms,
I felt the world at peace.
I'll ever have that memory—
'twill never, ever cease.

And now I look back on those years—
so many have passed by.
It seems I blinked, and you had grown
before my very eyes.

But, always remember . . .

The times I rocked you 'til you slept
through good dreams and the bad.
The times we've laughed, the times we've cried,
and great times that we've had.

No matter what the age you reach
you'll be my "little one."
I love you so—with all my heart—
your smiles outshine the sun.
