Faith Is Not A Feeling

by Eugene Whitney © 2025

There was a faithful Christian man
Whose faith started to fade.
Whenever he was feeling down,
His doubts became displayed.

He prayed to God for help to see
Why his belief was weak,
And how he could strengthen his faith
So life would seem less bleak.

God put a thought into his head
That turned his mind around.
He saw something unseen before.
God's answer he had found.

God showed him what he had to know
To not trust how he felt.
When he would feel the heat of doubt,
His true faith need not melt.

Our feelings tend to come and go,
And do not seem to last.
But faith can still be permanent,
While feelings can change fast.

Now he is stable in his faith
And moods don't interfere.
His faith and mood are separate
And God is always near.
