Mankind must have a king, they say
As Israel chose a Saul
While God would choose a Shepherd Boy
The greatest choice of all.
Man's king with earthly jewels arrayed
His earthly brow adorns
A human head; but God will show
His King with Crown of Thorns.
Both have a beauty, and will shine
With stark diversity
One crown created pearls of blood
The Man who died for me.
The other king the world would own
Because it was their choice
His fame absorbing worldly praise
But would not hear God's voice.
God's King, His David, always will
Man's cold rejection know
By those who have not found His Grace
Or understood His woe.
This King will reign eternally
And we will reign with Him
To know through everlasting days
His Light will never dim.
