Oh, Cross of Calvary, divine and bold,
Where Love's own Son met with fate untold;
A symbol stark against the sky so vast,
Where heaven's tears fell down at last.
In You, the burden of our sin was laid.
The price of life by Jesus Christ was paid.
Through You, the chain of death was broken;
In You, the path to Life reopened.
You bore the weight of human grief and pain;
Yet, stood unyielding through the tempest's reign.
In You, the sun of righteousness did rise,
To conquer darkness with a sacrifice.
The beams of wood, once rough and bare,
Now gleam with love beyond compare.
You bridge the gap that sin did make,
A silent sentinel for mercy's sake.
With nails of hate, they did affix,
The hands that healed, by hearts so mixed.
With love so vast, it could not die,
But lived to save in endless time.
You, the tree of life, though once a curse,
Now bloom with grace, our souls to nurse.
Through You, the veil of separation fell,
In You, we find safety from eternal hell.
In You, the lost are found anew;
The captives freed, the mourners drew
near to the heart that ever beats
With love unchanging, love so sweet.
Oh, Cross of Christ, our boast and pride,
By you, we live, in You, we abide.
In every storm, in every plight,
You guide us through the darkest night.
The world may scorn, the proud may jeer,
But we will hold You forever dear.
For in your shadow, we find God's light,
In You, our hearts will take eternal flight.
In You, our lives are not our own;
But from the cross He is now on the throne.
We live by faith, not by our might,
In Christ alone, we stand upright.
Cross of Calvary, so high and lifted up,
Your story whispers to a world corrupt;
Of sacrifice and love so pure,
That breaks the chains, forevermore.
We'll live, we'll love, we'll breathe Your name,
The world will never see us as the same.
But in our hearts, the fire burns,
For we are Yours, in whom we trust and turn.
Forevermore, we will sing Your praise,
The blessed Cross bore the weight of days.
Until every tongue confesses, every knee bends low,
You have sent Your Spirit to love and know.
In You, our Savior, did embrace,
The fate that saved the human race.
Oh, Cross of Calvary, to You we raise,
This ode of love, in Jesus' name we pray.
