Come And Go

by Eugene Whitney © 2024

He calls us to come follow him,
But where will he lead us?
What might we learn from Jesus now
If we give him our trust?

He promises both love and pain.
Why would we want them both?
Perhaps two sides of the same coin
Will help us find new growth.

Love does not seek its own comfort,
But persists under strain.
God calls us all to share our love
In sunshine and in rain.

The more we suffer for a friend,
The more we grow with pain.
And when we give this deeper love,
Closeness to God we gain.

Now once we choose to come to him,
He bids us then to go,
So, we can share what we have learned,
God's love, others can know.
