Subtle Sins

by Eugene Whitney © 2025

Sometimes we overlook our sins,
When subtle they may be.
But we will keep offending God
With sins we fail to see.

Have we shamed others with our pride
By talking way too much?
Have we shared gossip without care
For who our words might touch?

Distorting information, or
By raising our own voice,
We grasp for more attention,
Making a selfish choice.

Do we focus upon our needs
Instead of needs near us,
Succumbing to temptations or
Indulging our own lust?

If we would think of others more,
And less about ourselves,
And even love our enemies,
Our doing this might help.

If we want closeness with our Lord,
Our sins we must confess.
Awareness of our subtle sins
Might help us sin much less.
