By the still, still waters of the mirrored surface
Reflecting faithfully what is above
This place of refuge from the coming darkness
A place of peacefulness, a place of love.
How can we walk beside these trembling waters?
And not perceive the bright reflected sky?
For though we wonder at its charming beauty
We may not see what this will signify.
Far above this world, it is infinity
And light portrays what is the scene below
Tranquil waters held in place by gravity
Perhaps an image that is false to know.
We live where waters are so often troubled
Churned and disrupted like the cruel sea
Reflections of the sky will not be showing
Only an upward look can set us free.
Still waters are above where Christ is sitting
Tranquility of heaven is the Way
And Truth and Life in fulness there is filling
In cloudless, perfect beauty of the Day.
