The Gift

A gift is what we give to those
For whom we love and care.
It shows the ones we care about,
Our love is really there.

A gift does not have strings attached,
Nor is conditional,
But is so freely given that
Our heart strings feel a pull.

The greatest gift in history
Was when God gave his son,
To die for us that we might live,
His gift second to none.

The cost or value of our gift
Is not what matters most.
The fact that there's a gift at all
Reveals a loving host.

Some people won't accept a gift
For reasons they don't know.
Receiving, they don't understand,
Can be a gift also.

Receiving might give all of us
An extra special lift,
When we can come to realize
The giver is the gift.
