courage without a decent cause,
a wedding without a groom;
like love without a scar…

a dance without a partner,
a poem that has lost its rhyme,
worship without surrender,
a clock that does not tell the time;
like faith without good works…

a family without connection,
a rabbi without disciples,
charity without compassion,
opera house without recitals;
like church with no vision…

a conductor without a choir,
a roof without a rafter,
Christmas without a Saviour,
a life lived without laughter;
like justice with no heart…

a writer without a story,
a baby without a mother,
a burden without a refuge,
a rainbow with no colour,
like joy lived all alone…

an artist without a brush,
a garden without some grass,
beauty without a meaning,
a landscape without contrast;
like grace without a cross…
