Expectations

by Eugene Whitney © 2024

We all have expectations, but
They don't always come true.
Frustration burns much like a fire
So, what are we to do?

Frustration helps us all to grow,
That's how patience is born.
When expectations are not met,
We need not be forlorn.

Instead of getting angry at
What undermines our plan,
Perhaps we need to push harder
And try the best we can.

Sometimes our hopes help us succeed,
Sometimes they disappoint.
Sometimes we need to expect less,
Or change our own viewpoint.

We all can choose to change our goals
According to desire,
And changing expectations can
Avoid frustration's fire.

If we can learn to be content,
Our worries will grow dim.
When we remember God's in charge,
Then we can trust in him.
