An Outward Shell

by Paul Purday
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PaulPurdayPaintings?ref=seller-platform-mcnav

It is so easy to present a shell
With iridescent shine and shapely form
And to the ear, the sound of waves as well
But sadly it is empty, and presents the norm
For those on route to hell.

God does not rest on how our outward things
appear, and just what all the world will see
But looks within and what the Spirit brings
that warm the Heart, and fills eternity
with Him, the King of Kings.

But Christianity is not exempt
from outward patterns and a pleasant look
Where flashing lights and garish praise will tempt
Those who have not taken in the Book
Or warmed to that attempt

And He will always see, what we contain
The hidden treasure of His Life within
For all our outward loss, is what we gain
of Him, who died to free us from our sin
And broke our every chain.
