A Diamond in the Rough

by Kristine Stanton © 2025

A broken man had come to rest
upon the desert sands.
In tattered clothes, he sat and wept
regarding his failed plans.

They did not go so well for him—
he'd suffered a great loss.
It's then he turned away from God —
too heavy was his cross.

This broken man had sunk so low
he'd given up on life,
but the LORD had other plans
to deal with this man's strife.

So, as a "diamond in the rough,"
God chipped and polished him.
He shined a LIGHT upon his world
so it would n'er be dim.

And then He sent a cherished one
to guide him day and night.
This angel was not seen by him,
but he was in her sight.

She watched and cared for this sad man
as God spoke to his heart.
And soon this tattered man was changed
and given a jumpstart. . .

Just like a flower unfolding,
he blossomed with new life.
This diamond in the rough now shone,
and washed away was strife.
