Truth

by John Zylstra

"What is truth?"
The question Pilate asked is
still still so relevant today,
for truth, unbalanced, is not truth,
and half truths lead astray.

We hear so often, "God is love,
and He would not condemn!"
And so ignore the reason for
Christ's sacrifice for men.

What is love?
Not freedom unrestrained,
as many claim today,
for God, unrighteous, is not God,
for justice is His way

What is pure?
The Body of our Living Lord
at work on earth today?
We wish, but know full well,
our dross must burn away.

But, when we judge
the church of God,
let's analyse the facts
and not ignore
either the faults,
or purifying acts.

For if we do
present a case
that's damning before men,
by passing o're redeeming grace,
who will be guilty then?
