Why is this the road for me?
a cancer ward, all my reward,
a lonely track, I can't distract;
no healing – pain is all I see.
Why is life so hard sometimes?
a friend is hurt, with no dessert,
a grief so deep, that my soul weeps;
no answers – just empty rhymes.
Why is this season mine to live?
a crushing blow, seems all I know,
a dusty plain, that sees no rain;
no relief – with nothing left to give.
Why is this pain so hard to face?
a confusing day, all I survey,
a comfort lost, too high a cost;
no meaning – just a hopeless chase.
Why is the blessing found in hard?
not in roses glance, or fleeting chance,
more mercies dance, with love enhance;
no easy path – but beauty scarred…
Why is God always there for me?
a faithful guide, my needs provide,
a refuge sure, a strength secure;
no death – just grace that sets me free.
Why did He have to die in my place?
a sinless man, always His plan,
a bleeding lamb, the great I AM;
no condemnation – just His embrace.
Why is it that I wonder why?
my doubts persist, His love resist;
time for me to rest, for God knows best;
only Jesus – let my "self" die.
Note: Written for Scott & Catherine Yardley and the many others who are doing it tough at the moment. May you know our Heavenly Father's arms are wrapped around you and may you know His love and grace in deeper and in a more intimate way.
