The Loss of a Soulmate

by Kristine Stanton © 2025

I lost my best friend on this night —
my wife — my lovely bride.
I held her in my arms and wept —
my tears I could not hide.

And with her dying breath she said
"I love you, dear — sweetheart.
O' please don't cry for me, my love —
e'er hold me in your heart.

"I'll be at peace and feel no pain
in Heaven with the LORD,
and one day soon I'll see your face —
a face that I've adored.

"I'll save a place for you, my dear,
but now I must depart.
I see a Light that's shining bright —
God's speaking to my heart."

It's then my soulmate left this Earth
and now I mourn her death.
The good LORD brought her Home with Him
as she breathed her last breath.

O', rest in peace, my dearest one
and know you're my true love.
I pray I get to join you soon
in Paradise, above.
