There is a high and holy place of prayer
A heavenly place where godly men dwell
Where warriors cry and fast the worldly care
And human trumpets shake the gates of hell
Here spirit fights where the battle is hot
This high place where battalions never go
Where only lone battle-scarred men have fought
Breathing words that lay the enemy low
It is here where you discern dark from light
Where the dividing work of scripture reigns
And the elect put the right foe to flight
So that now all of hell cowers and wanes
Satan hates the prayers of these holy men
These lowly souls that no one ever sees
For he knows they will rise and pray again
And plead by faith until he turns and flees
The spirit calls seeking these chosen few
Drawing them to this high and holy war
To be more than a soul stuck in a pew
That rise by the Spirit with wings that soar
These are not the rich, the proud and able
For He looks for the soul which is lowly
The spirit of one born in a stable
This is the man that God can make holy
With these men's prayers God will subdue the earth
Til all the kings rule in a godly way
And those esteemed will be of Spirit-birth
With God's Church waiting for resurrection day.
