That great 'one thing' was David's strong desire
Beholding all the beauty of the Lord
To seek, pursue, delight, and to enquire
Within His temple, there where he adored
The secret place to hide, in troubled times
Away from worldly thought and paradigms.
And Paul's 'one thing' to do, was to forget
those things behind, to reach those things ahead
He pressed toward the goal where greater yet
there is the Prize to which in faith to tread
The upward call of God in Christ that we
with him will join, in love and faith, to see.
Martha was distracted as she served alone
While Mary sat at Jesus' feet, in peace
But He, her wearied words would not condone
"'One thing' is needed and it will not cease
She chose the good part, none can take away"
This will endure to the eternal day.
This great distracting world will lead our eyes
To many things that bind us to the earth
Now we will view 'one thing' within the skies
Where we will see His beauty and His worth
The Christ of God who visited below
To draw us to Himself, His Grace to know.
