You Took My Tiny Heart

by Kristine Stanton © 2025

Umm. . .when you went away dad-dy,
you took my tiny heart.
You left us here as you went Home —
the day you did depart.

It was a dark and gruesome day —
I felt lonesome and sad.
To me my tiny world ended —
I'd lost my big, strong dad.

Yes. . .

It was a dark, depressing day —
I cried all day and night.
Mommy could not soothe my pain
when you walked in God's Light.

She hugged and rocked me in her arms
as we both grieved and wept.
We sobbed 'til we had no tears left,
'tis then that we both slept.

The mem-or-ies I have of you —
forever they will be.
I carry them within my heart
so you're al-ways with me.

I'm thankful that you're Home with God,
but sad you aren't with me.
I miss you, daddy — every day,
and pray you are hap-py.

I pray that you now rest in peace
in Heaven, up above,
and that you're watching over me
to guard me with your love.
