He walked down dusty streets
knew the weight of shadows,
He laughed and cried and tried;
felt the pain of widows.
Wandered in the wilderness
knew of rejection's curse,
He wept and bled and died;
lived every word and verse.
He danced with His brothers
knew the heaviness of grief,
He joked, provoked and hoped;
and He died beside the thief.
Kneeled to wash dirty feet
knew the joy of friendship,
He played and stayed and prayed;
surrendered life in worship.
He captured all attention
knew how to tell a yarn,
He taught and thought and sought;
born in a humble barn.
He loved the little children
knew the sorrow would not last,
He persists and lifts and gifts;
He is kindness unsurpassed.
He was nailed to a piece of wood
knew the price He had to pay,
He knows, and chose and rose;
He is true love on display.
He loves the brokenhearted
knew the value of this weary soul,
He embraced and graced and faced;
the rugged cross to make me whole.
