Good News

by Eugene Whitney © 2026

As good as we intend to be,
We cannot measure up
To God or his pure holiness.
In God's eyes we're corrupt.

Now all have sinned and fallen short
Needing to be redeemed.
But there is nothing we can do
To renew our esteem.

So God who loves each one of us
Offers a sacrifice
By giving up his only son
To die and pay our price.

Because we cannot save ourselves
God suffered in our place,
So Jesus died that we might live
Because of God's pure grace.

But death could not diminish God.
Jesus rose from the dead
To show us all that we can have
Eternal life instead.

If we will just confess our sins,
They will not interfere.
Believers are forgiven and
Will know that God is near.
