Twinkle toes and umbrella's
Heaven knows much deeper Selah's
dancing glee with lost emotions,
wounded knee on distant oceans.
Faded hues and scarlet sunrise,
depth refuse - as we seek the prize,
holy masks and feeble service,
pure just gasps – left for false purpose.
Twisted curse embraced alone
hidden verse is left unknown,
bitter pain to scar and stain
acid rain I can't contain.
Sacred left, my glance diverted
beauty theft - His grace perverted,
my own rights with justice token
pretty writes with grief unspoken.
Shallow rants disguised in rhymes
biased slants in artful lines,
selfish cause - becomes our focus
fancy cars – success to choke us.
Spiritual foes land heavy blows
my twinkle toes explore the lows,
mercy glee, Christ's love extended
bended knee - my words surrendered.
Healing deep, beyond the casual
nothing cheap the growth is gradual,
life submit - the cross is heavy,
bear and grit, God's strength is ready.
Note: The Hebrew word Selah appears 74 times in the Bible, and 71 of those occur in the book of Psalms. Many commentaries say that Selah is a mysterious, ambiguous word—a word with uncertain meaning. However, some believe King David used this word as an invitation to pause—to take a breath, reflect, rest, and remember. It is used in this context in stanza one above.
This poem has many layers to it (which I invite you to explore)- but it is mainly about our unwillingness at times to go deep with God. It challenges us to go past the shallow and delve deep into our pain - to be willing to do the hard yards, to commit our way and words (poems) to God. For His strength is ready for us and intimacy with God is there for us to claim.
