"I'm sorry, you'll never have kids", they'd say,
But I was eager to prove them wrong one day.
Life wasn't so easy before you two,
Chronic illness was a battle I deeply knew.
Then one day the smell of my coffee left me instantly ill,
Because God knew there were two spaces to be filled.
Just your Daddy and I — and many prayers,
But I knew God's word was truer than the naysayers.
Those two pink lines, we could hardly believe,
Then tiny kicks came, like a breath of relief.
My belly grew bigger and my body got stronger,
Bound by illness — no longer.
What an honor to do this twice,
Two little hearts that changed my life.
When we finally met — we were thrilled,
The two missing pieces of my heart… finally filled.
