When Morning Comes

by Randy Richmond © 2024

I opened my eyes and didn't feel the pain
that kept me up so late last night
I sat up, stretched, and looked around
at an unfamiliar sight

There was a brightness all around me
as I stood to my feet
Looking back where I had risen
where there was no pillow, bed, or sheet

As my eyes became adjusted to the scene
it became clear where this must be
I took a few surprising painless steps
toward a man waving at me

As he drew closer, and I saw him smile
it was then I knew for sure
It was my dad come to greet me here in Heaven
where all is perfect, peaceful, and so pure

We hugged there for a long moment
when who but Jesus then appears
Love and emotion overtakes us
but only of joy instead of tears

He told dad to show me around
we know there's others he'll want to see
A glad reunion where you all can gather
in a joyous jubilee

Then we saw a crowd there waiting
among them my wife, my mom, my son
There are cheers from all of them and angels
as my forever has just begun…
