Just when will enough be enough?
Have we got no limit for stuff?
We gather and hoard,
All limits ignored.
Claim our needs as God calls our bluff.
And how does God's Word fit our mood,
"Contented with clothing and food"?
But what of the rest,
The better and best,
That our greedy fingers accrued?
The net gain and sum of it all,
Will handsomely, readily fall.
By wayside and trail,
The tally will fail,
The creditor coming to call
Pray tell now the creditor's name,
So we can be ready with blame,
To lay at His feet,
The day that we meet.
It's Jesus, the one and the same!
His kingdom He said to pursue,
and "stuff" He would add unto you.
But we did the worst,
And sought the "stuff" first.
Now what when the invoice is due?
Deliver yourself from the snare!
Be greedy to give and to share!
For what is it worth
When leaving this earth?
Does "stuff" to the kingdom compare?
Let's store some real treasure above.
A measure of God's given love.
Consider them wise,
Who here recognize
When God gives enough, it's enough.
