New Family

by Linda Paxton © 2026

On golden sand I've been camped out
these last five months or more,
My brothers and sisters are with me
all seated on the shore.

Around the campfire we're gathered,
our opened hearts laid bare,
Not afraid to let others see-
we really want to share.

We've all so much in common
we've been outcasts once, you see
But the Holy fire is blazing
and we're sitting comfortably.

I hear their trials and anguish
sometimes just like my own,
and join with them in thanks and praise
for Father leads us home.

In shipwrecks, tossed, abandoned
we were hoping to be found
When the Captain of our souls appeared
And turned our lives around.

Odd it seems these boys and girls
I've never met before-
My new adopted family
never strangers on the shore.

Clinton, Royston, Laurel, Marilyn
Randy and Mr. Smead
By their thoughts I'm truly blessed
with every word I read.

I join with my poetic kin
in sequenced ebb and flow,
Flames lick higher as they speak out,
inside, my heart aglow.

Undying embers in each of us,
we'll wait upon the beach-
for that new and bright horizon
The Son rising in the east.
