"But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed."
(Isaiah 53:5, NIV)
The nails that pierced Your hands and feet
had stained them crimson red.
The crown of thorns thrust on Your head
had caused You pain — You bled.
A single word You did not speak
as You were mocked and scorned.
You foreknew Your painful death
as some had watched and mourned.
Your precious blood has washed us clean
of our in-iqui-ties—
it's by Your stripes we have been healed
of sin's im-pur-ities.
Your blood secured a vic-tor-y
over death — the grave
It reconciled us with God;
transgressions He forgave.
It's through the riches of God's grace
this world has been redeemed—
a gift bestowed upon each one
by One who's most esteemed.
"In him we have redemption through his blood,
the forgiveness of sins,
in accordance with the riches of God's grace."
(Ephesians 1:7, NIV)
