When God Turned His Back

by brian

It was not the agony of the cat of nine
that ripped my flesh and exposed my spine
Nor was it the piercing thorny crown
that caused my blood to trickle down
No, not the nails in foot and hand
as I took the place of sinful man
Not the mocking, shouting cruel word
that from the crowd that day was heard
Even the pain and torture of the cross
could not compare to the awful loss
The Almighty moved and made daylight flee
t'was when God turned His back on Me!
All that was done that you My friend
might have a chance to enter in
The way to Heaven has been paid
for on My cross your sin was laid
Now take this gift I offer you
Eternity's free... I've paid your due
But if you die without this gift so true
God will have to turn His back on YOU!
