God Came as Man

by Anita Anderson

God came to dwell on this earth below,
As a tiny babe many years ago.

A heavenly king, yet born as man,
Gave up His rights as part of God's plan.

He had no palace in which to stay,
But was gently placed in a trough of hay.

No celebration as known to earth,
But angels sang of His lowly birth.

As they lit the sky, only shepherds heard,
That something special had just occurred.

Simply believing, they hurried off,
To find the babe who lay in the trough.

They gazed in wonder at the sight,
And trembled now, with joy, not fright.

Leaving the stable they spread the word,
"A Savior is born! He is Christ the Lord!"

Mary pondered all that she'd been told,
And treasured it in her heart, as gold.

The shepherds now were the ones that sang,
As they praised the Lord, their voices rang.

This hardly seems like the proper way,
To welcome a King with such heav'nly array.

But God had a reason for what took place,
There's a lesson here that we all must face.

As a child of God's we must obey,
And not view things in this world's way.

Consider others better than us,
Give up our "rights" without a fuss.

We don't need riches, wealth or fame,
Don't get caught up in that worldly game.

Don't look for kings to sing our praise,
Instead be humble in all our ways.

Now, go spread the news about God's Son,
And treasure all that He has done.

And when things in life seem out of hand,
Remember how God came as man.
