What Grandchildren Do

by Deborah Bell © 2015

As we are getting older…they sure help to calm the ride
Their meekness and humility shows there no need for pride

They teach you how to listen for they take in every word
And if you say something you shouldn’t they’ll repeat it be assured

And if you’re aggravated and your anger you display
They teach you that the best thing you can do is sneak away

And as for being cordial when you say something in jest
They’ll laugh and laugh like what they heard was just the very best

They will teach you how to trust with their innocence so pure
And if you’re sick they’ll tend to you as if they know the cure

Their big bright eyes just sparkle as if life is peachy keen
And as for God they still believe…Although He can’t be seen

How blessed we are to have them as our life is slowing down
With their miraculous ability to overturn a frown

Your heart just starts to palpitate when they walk through the door
And when they leave your heart is grieved because you want them more

They are a special part of life we could not live without
They make getting old easier we know without a doubt

That dreadful role of parenting you felt sometimes was cursed
How great it would have been to have had our grandchildren first…

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of
children are their fathers.
Proverbs 17:6
