Service for the Gospel's Sake

by John Janzen © 2018

Paul became a Jew to Jews
And led a life we wouldn’t choose
Took the road most wouldn’t take
So he could serve for the Gospel’s sake

When he worked with Christians weak
Whose legalistic lives were bleak
His fortitude they couldn’t shake
So he could serve for the Gospel’s sake

Under law? Paul served them too
Did what we’d least expect him too
Shaved his head no vow to break
To prove he served for the Gospel’s sake

What of those without the law?
No compromise to Christ they saw
Wise adjustments he would make
So he could serve for the Gospel’s sake

Jesus represented all
When He for mankind took the fall
With those who would believe at stake
In love He died for the Gospel’s sake

What is left for me and you
To have our cake and eat it too?
Best we with tradition break
And choose to serve for the Gospel’s sake

Christian take today your stand
And put to plow the slothful hand
Show the world you’re not a fake
How will you serve for the Gospel’s sake?
