We Pray In Your Name

by Anne Shanholtz © 2009

Hello Jesus, how are you today?
My little brother and I just thought we'd pray
We don't want to ask for toys or such
cuz, as you know, God, we do have too much

Would you please just bless our sweet little kitty
and our hamster and bunny
-that bunny's so pretty

Bless all our school friends, even the bully
who teases us-and my teddy bear, Wooly

My Mom prays for peace
and for love everywhere
She has that covered so
I'm sure you won't care
if we pray for fun things
like parks that have rides
and cotton candy and popcorn
and giant water slides

Oh yeah, we do need our Daddy back
He's fighting a war
Mommy says the world needs hope
and that's what he fights for

Please bring him home safely
so he can tuck us in
and ride us piggy-back
and make Mommy laugh again.

Well, that does it for us, God
You have a good night
We'll climb into bed now and
turn off the light
We're finished our prayers
so, dear God, nitey nite!
You sleep good and don't let the bugs bite!
(That's what my Daddy says when he's home)
