God, Thou Art There

by Deborah Smith Plemmons © 2001

Whether I go from the Spirit of Thee,
Or whether I from Thy presence flee,
Behold, Thou art there!

If I ascend up into heaven to dwell,
Or if I make my bed in hell,
Behold, Thou art there!

If I take the wings of the morning and flee,
Or if I dwell in the deepest parts of the sea,
Behold, Thou art there!

Thy hand shall lead me even there;
Thy right hand shall hold me up with care,
Because Thou art there!

If I say the darkness shall cover me,
Even the darkness hides me not from Thee,
Because Thou art there!

Night and Day are both alike to Thee;
Even the night shall be a light about me,
Because Thou art there!
