God, The I Am

by Deborah Smith Plemmons © 2009

In the desert, a burning bush Moses found;
He took off his shoes, for he was on holy ground.
"Go set the children of Israel free,
For the I AM hath sent thee."

God told Gideon to fight the Midianites so;
God would get the victory, but Gideon had to go.
"Take three hundred men to battle for Me,
For the I AM hath sent thee."

God led David to Goliath, a man of fame;
David was to slay the giant in the Lord's name.
"Take five stones and a sling, trustingly,
For the I AM hath sent thee."

Christ spoke to Paul on the road to Damascus;
Paul listened to Christ, who said it would be thus:
"Preach the Word to set souls free,
For the I Am hath sent thee."

God tells us there is a battle to win
Against the flesh and Spirit warring within.
"Resist the devil, and he will flee,
For the I AM hath sent thee."

God said there will be giants in the land;
Trials and tribulations will be on every hand.
"Go with the Sword and by you I will be,
For the I AM hath sent thee."

God commands us to go into all the world,
To tell the lost who have never heard.
"Preach to every creature about Me,
For the I AM hath sent thee."
