Heaven's Yard Sale

by John Janzen © 2014

I dreamed that I went yard saleing
Within the pearly gates
Convinced was I that I would find
Great stuff at heavenly rates

How soon I saw to my disgust
The items offered there
The filthy lives of sinful men
Lost souls found in despair

And as I looked around I saw
‘twas nothing there for free
As disappointed angels knew
They’d see no cents (sense) from me

I only saw one other there
He said I’ll take them all
Just name your price for each of them
Don’t let a single fall

The angels said the price is blood
Do you still want to pay?
The wages for their sin is death
And there’s no other way

I’ll gladly pay the price you ask
Just take my life for theirs
I’ll bear their burden, share their load
And answer all their prayers

I’ll place my spirit deep within
Each one that will believe
And maybe some will even share
The love that they’ve received

And so the deals for which I searched
The freebies that I sought
Were not from those who set the sale
But from the one who bought
