He Said Yes

by Kathleen Higham

Did You hear me sigh?
When silently to You I cry
Yes, the word I beg to hear
But maybe not, I fear.

The same old prayer, I know
Can't believe I desire it so
Yes, tears again concede
Aching to express the need.

But one day the tears dried
A soul no longer denied
The yes would come to me
Even when I did not see.

Years and years passed by
And still I lived the lie
Until my life came apart
Then darkness filled my heart.

Stood in the valley of horror
My eyes could believe no more
Falling down on my knees
Sobbed to Him, God, please.

Time it seems became a friend
Nothing else can help me mend
Yes, yes, and yes, I said
Yes, screamed inside my head.

Oh, I truly know it now
The word crept in somehow
For God had never left my side
Until at last the yes, I cried.

Surrendered, filled with peace
His love for me will never cease
Then the word I longed to hear
He whispered sweetly in my ear
Yes…
