The Guide

by Kathleen Higham

Anxiously I ponder my fate
To enter through the narrow gate
For I have failed miserably
Hope dwindles away silently.

So few will enter, He said
These words heavy in my head
Remembering when I turned away
Blundered through another day.

Yet, here is His mighty Word
Read it then be reassured
He wishes that not one will perish
Beautiful faithful words I cherish.

Life is hard, fraught with strife
On the narrow rode to life
Off the path I wander in horror
But my Father opens another door.

Narrow is the gate, it's true
God will walk each step with you
We can't find it on our own
When He comes we're not alone.

I don't know what lies ahead
Sometimes pain brings this dread
But one thing I truly know
Down the narrow path I'll go.

Not always will I understand
All the moments God has planned
No longer do I ponder my fate
Just follow Him to the narrow gate.

When at last I finally see
In my struggle He carried me
The door to Heaven opens wide
To my Savior and faithful Guide.
