Agony

by Bradley Driskill © 2019

In the garden lit by the moon
Knowing the events that were coming soon
Kneeling before the Father on a ground of clover,
Praying this bitter cup could possibly pass over.
Refusing to go against His Father's will
Awaiting an envious mob out for the kill.

His friend's on watch, were sound asleep
They would soon flee like frightened sheep.
Awake, for the betrayer is at hand
Jesus of Nazareth is who they demand.
Judas who betrayed Him with a kiss
Would soon meet his fate in the fiery abyss.

He could have called legions of angels to His rescue
Yet He drank this bitter cup for me and you.
The whole time we were on His mind
On the cross, true love was defined.
His blood is the only that can save
And the only that conquered the grave.
