More than conquerors

by Bettina Van Vaerenbergh

Who, who will lay anything -
To the charge of God's elect?
It is God who justifies;
Just as He also did select.

Who, who will condemn us?
Who will condemn us when -
It is Christ who died for us,
And Christ who is risen again.

It is Christ who is seated now
At the right hand of God;
Christ who makes intercession
For the saints, and there's a lot!

Who, who will separate us
From the great love of Christ?
Will tribulation, or persecution;
Do you think perils might?

From the love of our Savior,
Who or what could separate us?
Could famine, or the sword;
Could nakedness, or distress?

"For Thy sake we are killed" -
"All the day long", so it is written.
"We are accounted as sheep";
"To be slaughtered and smitten."

But in all of these things
We are more than conquerors!
We are victorious through Christ;
Through Him who loved us.

For I'm persuaded in my heart,
And persuaded in my mind,
That neither angels, nor powers;
Not even death, and not life;

Neither unseen principalities;
Not things present or future;
Not any height, nor any depth;
And that not any other creature…

Shall be able to separate us
From the great love of God;
From the endless, endless love
That is in Christ Jesus our Lord!
