Who could have guessed

by Marion Caragounis

A baby boy called Jesus was born on Christmas day,
A secret like no other was sleeping in the hay.
Who could have guessed the angels (who sang with joy that morn)
Had worshipped Him in Heaven before the world was born?

Within a shadowed stable, a candle shining bright
Upon a newborn baby who is this dark word's Light.
Who could have guessed His Father (our God in Heaven above)
Had given us for Christmas His perfect Gift of Love?

Who could have guessed His purpose - the path that He would tread,
To die for our salvation and rise up from the dead?
As shepherd's gazed in wonder, who could have guessed or known
The babe laid in the manger would sit on Heaven's throne?
