Solomon's Wisdom

by Kimberley Allen © 2007

I wonder at the wisdom of King Solomon of old
Two women came before him, two women it is told.
Two and two children, for two babies had been born
Only one child living and two women so forlorn.
Their story they unravelled, a mystery for to solve
Solomon He pondered as the story did evolve.
It pleased the Lord to give him a wise and knowing heart
It was his dear request for his kingship from the start.
He rightly judged the two in discerning who was true
"Divide the child in half, a part for each of you."
The one to whom the baby rightly did belong
Quickly she objected, making evident the wrong.
The other mother thoughtlessly to Solomon replied
Her guilt she displayed in agreement to divide.
If only we like Solomon in hearts for wisdom pray
Our Father would be liberal in giving it away.
