My best friend

I'd like to take a moment
to share a story with you
Everyone has a best friend
I'm sure that's true.

My best friend always loved me
with a love that's hard to find
that's just another reason why
he's always on my mind.

I would tell him all my problems
while in bed I would lay
he always brought me sunshine
whenever things seemed gray.

A true friend I could count on
children could sit on his knee
one day my best friend died
and it should have been me.

My best friend died it's true
but I talked with him today
he promised he'd never leave me
and forever with me stay.

I hope you know my best friend
Jesus, God's Only Son
He wants to be your best friend too
until our work on earth is done.
