Not Retracing Old Patterns

by Raydene Nash

At times it seems that others’ interests
By man’s institutions aren’t considered;
From some who can’t pass multiple choice tests
To those who with abuse are ministered.
Some rich want their superiority,
The feeling of power that their wealth brings.
Some poor want their inferiority,
Addictions, drunken songs, and words that sting.
Some leaders want infallibility,
For others to worship them at their feet.
Some would-be leaders want stability
In hopes that they’ll be seen each time they meet.
When enough decide to lean upon God’s grace,
Old patterns we will not need to retrace.
