How few of us, like king David, would earnestly dare to pray:
"Search my heart, oh Lord, see if in me there's any wicked way."
"Examine me and prove Your servant, even if it hurts;
Shine Your Light in every corner"- how courageous are these words!
How few of us, like the psalmist, the great I Am dare to invite:
"Try me, my God, come and visit me in the night."
Who among us can live with the consuming fire, do tell;
Who among us with everlasting burnings can dwell?
Jesus sits in our hearts like a refiner, and like fuller's soap.
His Holy Spirit convicts, yet always gives us hope.
God reveals our secret sins, and brings them out into His Light;
So we'd walk like Jesus did, blameless and upright.
He purifies us like silver, and tries us like precious gold;
He chastens and corrects every true sheep of His fold.
While it might feel unpleasant, it's a sure token of God's love;
Our Father deals with us gently, never harsh and rough.
The creation of a pure heart in us is a continuous, lifelong work;
And from letting in the Light Christians should never shirk.
So maybe, as king David did, we too could pray today:
"Search my heart, oh God, and lead me forth in Your way."
