Repentance Road

by Royston © 2020

The way of repentance is rough
and walking its pathway is tough.
But I have to travel its road
carrying my sins heavy load

My mind's overwhelmed with torment
I wish to be able to repent.
Plagued with guilt day and night,
with my sin always in my sight.

Sometimes I want to hide and flee
wishing the ground would swallow me.
The feelings of guilt will not cease
and I just cannot find any peace.

For facing friends and family
is now so difficult for me.
But it is what I have to do
to work my shame and sorrow through.

So Repentance Road I now walk
and on the way with Jesus talk,
'til we arrive at Calvary
where I see His great love for me.

"Come to me," I hear Jesus say,
"and I will wash your guilt away."
"No matter what wrongs you have done,
I've forgiven everyone."

Standing there, my eyes soaking wet,
and sobbing great tears of regret.
Feeling so wretched and so lost
I confessed my sins at the cross.

Now He’s taken my heavy load
I've finished that Repentant Road
