WHEN JESUS WEPT

by Janette Lueveen

When their brother died
Mary and Martha cried
Lord, you've come too late
Lazarus already at Heavens' gate

Jesus wept, perceiving their pain
His authority, death cannot restrain
Broken hearts would be mended
Lazarus came forth, his life extended

Kneeling at an altar of stone
Jesus prayed and sobbed alone
While Peter and the disciples slept
In blood and dread, Jesus wept

He who called Lazarus from the grave
Himself, Christ Jesus refused to save
So it is, there is weakness in man
In hour of need, disciples failed to stand

Faithful believers rained many tears
But reprobates prevailed with their cheers
Someday King Jesus will reappear
Who then will weep, as judgement draws near?
